National Television Interview: Debt, Stigma, and Financial Recovery
A national interview exploring how Canadians understand and experience debt, shifting the conversation away from moral judgment and toward lived financial pressure. The discussion examines how people enter debt gradually, often through a combination of rising costs, unexpected events, and structural constraints rather than simple financial mismanagement.
It reframes debt as a response to scarcity, and insolvency as a structured legal process for financial recovery rather than a moral endpoint. The conversation also addresses stigma, shame, and the emotional burden of financial stress, as well as changing generational attitudes toward borrowing and repayment.
This interview offers an early foundation for ongoing work exploring the relationship between money, behaviour, and financial wellbeing.
